The Spear of Vaalinde

The Witches and followers of Vaalinde were women of aggressive temper and of possessive behavior. They origined from the Far East, from China and Indonesia, therefore they basically worshipped oriental, buddhistic deities. Nothing could stand in the way of a Vaalinde Witch if she set her mind on something or someone, and they would bear fire and the black lava as their symbols. Among the magical tools and weapons of the Vaalinde Witches, the most important was the so called "Spear of Vaalinde".
According to their legends, the Spear was carved pointed on a black stone that they named "thunder stone" - obsidian, mot possibly. This was a tool that every Vaalinde Witch possessed and used in order to destroy her enemies.
In order to vanquish an enemy and sweep him out of her way, the Vaalinde Witch would take the Spear and hang it from a black string. This was a ritual performed on a night when the moon was waning. She wrote the name of the person she wished to vanquish on it and laid it as a gift to the deity of her altar. The deity was the one to deal with the person in question, protecting her follower from him and determining her fate. On the altar of her deity, she wrote the name of her enemy on a piece of paper.
"Winds and God, thou that unleash the tempests on to the world and spread darkness and misfortune, lead my Spear onto my enemy…(name and mother's name) so that he cannot utter or do any evil against me… (here they mentioned their own name and their mother's name). Whatever evil he has wished for me may my Spear return it to him his curses. May he deal with his own misfortunes and be swept off my way." Then they burned the paper with the name on it on the altar and laid their Spear on the ashes. On top of it, they laid wild thorns. The incensory would be lit every single night of the waning moon after seven o o'clock and on a single hour of the night and an incense burning would remind the Goddess of her promise to protect the Vaalinde Witch from her enemy. In one of the Attart Witches' poems, it is mentioned that the Vaalinde Witches would slay an animal and use its blood to write the name of their enemy on their Spear.
Thousands of Abane soldiers passed the rivers, and the burnt lands still smelled of fire. Flesh, perished without laments laid next to blooming flowers. From the bllod of the dead, the Witches of Vaalinde wrote our names on their Spears. And when the dead were no more, and the land dried of their blood, they slayed God's creatures to write our names on their Spears with their blood. "Ayvezin", " Lioness", Kallirhoe", Troyess", "Attare"… all of these Attart Witches are now dead.

Invisible enemies
When all went wrong without a clear reason and invisible enemies lingered in the dark ready to attack and harm them, in order to stop this malice a Vaalinde Witch would hang the Spear around her neck from a black piece of string. The power of the stone of thunder would ferociously protect the Vaalinde Witch from any malice or ill luck "Medora, I take thy glow upon my chest, and a Chelidon' restless eye I set upon me, to guard and protect me against all those who wish me harm. Against an evil omen or an evil eye, oh Medora my warrior and princess, you go on first and send my Spear upon them with your strength and fury. And I, invincible, shall only number victories of emerald and undistracted shall I tread my path."

Every time that a Vaalinde Witch would sense a threat, they would touch the spear hanging upon their chest and they would utter the sacred name of "Medora".
