The Witches' Love Elixir
"Esthir"

The "Esthir" is a perfume.

"...it was in an old bottle from an oil lamp that the Witches hid the "Esthir". Thus hidden, it left the Arabic countries and reached the shores and the great sea..."
The legend says that the "Esthir" was traditionally made by the Elders (the Madas). "They put inside flowers and plants, bergamot, roots and honey, herbs and scents from desert flowers, mind and knowledge, cedar, amber and musk" that allured the male nostrils. In it they also put the secret of love, which they kept hidden in their Scripts, secret and safe, away for mortal eyes.
"When a man smells the "Esthir" blended with the scents of your own body times three" they said, "then he will move heaven and earth to find it again. And when he shall find it, on the young witch who possesses it, he'll fall in love with her and be a fool for her. Out of fear of losing her, he shall marry her and never let her leave his side."
The Madas enchanted the filter for three lunar circles. "As the sun shines let love shine…as the fire burns let his heart burn…as the thirsty lust for water let him lust for the woman who wears this…" When it came to the hands of the young witch, the filter was thus charged to give her the pleasures of love and the man she longed for. She only had to name him.
The book "The Witches of Smyrna" describes the life of Katina, a witch, living in the boondocks of Smyrna in 1888. Cunning and bold, she is annointed into the Craft by the Turkish Elder Attart. Katina, a potent young witch, used the "Esthir" in order to take in second marriage Constantine Karaman, a man that until that day she had only heard of. A man of great wealth and power, especially handsome, that would raise her to the highest social rank of Smyrna and make her his equal.
Katina had chosen Constantine Karaman and took the "Esthir" from the hands of Attart herself. For three days and three nights she chanted the filter on his name.
"I, Katina, daughter of Euthalia, want Constantine Karaman, son of Olga, to fall in love with me. As soon as three drops fall on his skin three times, the very thought of me will fill his head day and night, and my face will haunt his dreams. He will not have any other woman but me."
She was wearing the filter even in her sleep - the perfumes deeply scenting her skin- and the third day, she went out to look for him in the streets. She lightly touched him and left the mark of "Esthir" on him (following the advice of the Mada, she mixed the "Esthir" with her sweat, because the "Esthir" that would touch the male should be mingled with the body scent of the woman who wanted him). And there is no escape from destiny...
